New age of the machines: latest in leather technology

Leather International takes a foray into what’s new in the machinery sector, highlighting technological advancements, the latest products, standards of quality and a glimpse at what’s next. Simac Tanning Tech in Milan is the bellwether for machinery throughout the industry, and February’s edition was no different. It showcased new machinery and technologies with an ever-stronger focus on energy and ecofriendly performance, and companies committed to reduced environmental impact. To this end, Simac Tanning Tech saw the official presentation of the ‘Supplier of Sustainable Technologies’ project, its main tool being the ‘Green Label’. With 17 companies having already joined the project, another 25 have embarked on the procedures to obtain a label. The 2018 edition ended with greatly increased visitor numbers, with figures up 18% when compared with last year. We’re now closer to the 2019 edition than the last one – and still in the grips of a glorious European summer – but it’s the right time to take stock on the state of modern tannery machinery, and it’s place in the greater context of supply and demand. Italy’s leather machinery and technology sector in 2017 alone, for instance, ...

Memorial Day eats: Restaurants serving specials, free food for vets – Entertainment & Life – The Palm Beach Post

Memorial Day weekend is shining just ahead of us, unlike last year when storm threats disrupted our outdoor grilling plans. That’s not to say firing up the grill is mandatory on the weekend that’s considered to be the unofficial start of summer. (Although grilling up a mighty burger is always tempting.) There are reasons to let someone else do the cooking. Deck 84 is serving summer-y specials after 3 p.m. Sunday and Monday. On the menu: the BBQ Burger with hardwood-smoked bacon, barbecued pork, aged cheddar and fried onions, served with fries and slaw ($18), a barbecued pork sandwich served with potato salad and slaw ($17), the Captain’s Platter of fried fish and shrimp, hush puppies and fries ($24), plus hot dogs and deviled eggs. Special drinks include peach mojitos and watermelon sangria ($13 each). There’s live music on its air-conditioned covered terrace, when The Full Decks play Saturday afternoon and Uproot Hootenanny play Sunday (from 2 to 5:30 p.m. both days). And, bonus on Monday, all active military personnel and veterans get 20 percent off their check. (840 E. Confessions of an ab-toning addict Engadget Engadget save share save share save share save share save share save share Page 1 Page 1 ear icon eye icon Fill 23 text file vr

I always thought that those as seen on TV-style ab-toning belts were a con, with only the most credulous of fools being taken in by them. “That’s not a way to get fitter,” scoffed my internal monologue, “it’s a bunch of hocus-pocus and flim-flam.” When Slendertone launched Connect, a smartphone-orientated reinvention of the technology, it seemed like the ideal time to torpedo the concept once and for all. Except I can’t, because I’m increasingly certain that my thinner, flatter stomach is down to wearing this and using it each day. In fact, I’ve gone from being the archetypal doubter to being a stone-cold convert, maybe even an addict. Slendertone is probably the biggest brand in the niche world of consumer electrical muscle stimulation. It’s a technique predicated upon the fact that passing a current through your muscles will cause them to contract. It’s an FDA-approved process that’s designed to strengthen muscles and has been used by athletes to help improve muscle resistance and blood flow. Its reputation as a practical, effective tool has been tarnished by companies that promise that wearing one of thes...

It’ll take four empty LPG canisters, a welder, laser cutter, and plenty of fixtures to build

It’ll take four empty LPG canisters, a welder, laser cutter, and plenty of fixtures to build your own sandblaster. To build a sandblaster you need a way to harness compressed air and sand, and a way to send it through an applicator gun. This is much easier said than done, but the skilled metalworkers at Make It Extreme have found a way. They started with four empty LPG (liquified petroleum gas) canisters, and proceeded to cut the tops and bottoms off using plasma cutters, creating two large canisters. Then they cut holes for various air fixtures and also made a rolling cart which makes the unit mobile. An applicator gun was built from pipe, and then all of the hoses were tightened up and sand was added to one of the canisters. The final test was to add pressurized air. After that? Time to start blasting. The sandblaster quickly removed old paint from the cans and then started blasting paint from sheet metal and wood.  Aluminium Extrusions This is an advanced project requiring heavy use of a welder and plasma cutter. You can do this at home, but you’re gonna need a lot of a equipment and definitely want to have a more than a few metalworking projects under your belt ...

iMuto S5 Portable Solar Power Station Hands-on Review

There’s not much we didn’t like about the iMuto power system. It does generate some heat, but that’s normal when you’re putting out more this much Li-ion-generated power. The refined look, informative LCD screen, and seemingly endless charging options compel us to recommend this out of the gate. We don’t typically follow Indiegogo projects, but the iMuto S5 Portable Solar Power Station follows on the heels of some existing products that show serious promise. The iMuto S5 claims 50Ah and 180Wh of power geared primarily for mobile devices. It even has an optional solar charging system. If you do the math, you find that the S5 portable power station uses 3.6V Li-ion cells—sixteen of them. SUPPORT OUR ADVERTISERS googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1389975325257-0′); }); As a power source, it can also charge multiple devices at the same time. The internal 16-cell battery array supplies 50Ah of 3.6V output or 180Wh. If those numbers are confusing, just realize it can approximately run a single device drawing 180W of power for one hour. The iMuto S5 includes a BMS (Battery Management System) to self-monitor the internal cel...
